AGENESIS OF CORPUS CALLOSUM ( ACC )

One of the cases that i came across during one of the medical camps that was organised in one part of slums of Jogeshwari , Mumbai. It was a rare case of two children from same family diagnosed as Agenesis of Corpus Callosum.
Presented with History of Consanguineous marriage between the parents no significant history was available.
Both children showed Severe Global delay in their development.Due to poor medical follow up and care they presented with multiple growing deformities and pressure sores at certain areas.
Mri scans revealed Agenesis of corpus callosum.

It refers to developmental errors, one of the rare cases, resulting in malformation or absence of one half of corpus callosum and white fibres that connect both hemispheres of the brain. The cause is still not known clearly, however many factors are responsible like sudden mutations in genes, any trauma during pregnancy, some errors in normal molecular function etc etc.Cases present with Vison issues, poor musle tone, poor motor coordination, gross developmental delay, low perception of pain, etc.
Needs therapy and follow up in long run to maintain the health and overall integrity of joints and body .
